Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy today made serious remarks against the Election Commission of India (EC).
Addressing mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan, Reddy alleged that the Election Commission had become a puppet in the hands of the ruling TRS.
He claimed that the EC was trying to mislead the High Court over the issue of the correction of the voters' list in the state. He also alleged that the EC was supporting the mistakes committed in the preparation and the correction of the voters' list.
He said that the EC owed an explanation to the people of the state on the issue.
Reddy also said that the attitude of the EC was giving rise to doubts in the minds of the people of the state over its competence to hold free and fair elections.
"The actions of EC are posing a grave threat to the basic tenets of democracy. I am scared that such acts will force the people of the country to lose hope in the constitutional body. I have no doubt that the EC has become a puppet in the hands of the TRS in the state, and is working according to the directions of the ruling party leaders," he alleged.
Reddy said that he had filed his fourth affidavit in the High Court on the issue of the defective voters' list, and added that the court would take up the hearing on Thursday.
