In a dramatic turn of events, Mahesh alias Dakaru Babu, who shot at Congress leader D Yadagiri Goud in Old Bowenpally in Secunderabad recently, was arrested on the premises of TV9 today.
The accused, who went underground after firing at Goud, showed up at the studio of the channel and answered some of the questions posed by the media personnel. He admitted to his crime and told the channel that he wished to surrender to the police.
As per the accused, after murdering real estate agent Shivraj a while ago, he repented his action and decided to give up on that part of his life. But things changed when, for reasons not yet clear, Goud was after him for quite some time, after which he suspected a threat to his life. As per him, he procured a gun only to threaten the Congress leader. He also claimed that he had decided to commit suicide a day before the incident but had changed his mind and decided to confront Goud to settle the issue.
The accused said that he never wanted to kill the Congress leader, but only meant to threaten him so that he would leave him (Babu) alone.
Soon after, the police entered the studio and arrested Babu while he was giving his interview.
