Although railway officials are taking steps to curb train robberies in the South Central Railway zone, one more such case was reported from Intikanne railway station in Warangal district on Wednesday.
According to railway police, Venkata Nageswara Rao, a passenger travelling in the Kakatiya Express, was robbed by a gang who threatened him with a knife. The victim belongs to Kesamudram.
According to the police, Nageswara Rao, a businessman, is a regular commuter on the train route. He was carrying about Rs. 5 lakh, when he was accosted by the gang of thieves.
The train had halted before the Intikanne railway station, when the incident took place. According to the victim, there were no other passengers in the compartment at that time, except he and the gang of thieves.
They made good their escape after depriving Nageswara Rao of his money. A complaint was registered at the Warangal Railway police station, and investigations are on.
