A major fire erupted in the Jeedimetla Industrial Area on Friday.
Fire broke out in Newtech Pharma Private Limited at Ramreddy Nagar, and was accompanied by huge blasting sounds. Towering fumes engulfed the area, and smoke could be seen and felt up to 2 km away.
The residents of the area alerted the police and the fire departments immediately. Responding to the SOS, the fire services personnel rushed to the spot and controlled the fire using eight vehicles.
Some labourers were trapped inside the company, and the fire fighters rescued them. Five persons received burns in the incident, and were shifted to a hospital.
Police said that the company management had failed to follow standard instructions to curtail such mishaps. The company had also failed to put in safety norms in place to protect the workers from such fires, and had ignored all safeguards related to preserving chemicals, they added.
