Telangana Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali today asked the state police to take steps to avoid any law and order problems during the upcoming Bonalu procession and the Bakrid festivities.
He issued these instructions during a review meeting held to discuss the preparations to be made for the upcoming celebrations with Principal Secretary (Home) Ravi Gupta, DGP M Mahender Reddy, and the police commissioners of the state.
At the meeting, Mahmood Ali asked the officials to make comprehensive arrangements for the safe conduct of both Bonalu and Bakrid by coordinating with the other relevant government departments.
Commenting on the organisation of the celebrations, he said, "The police should coordinate with local temple committee members to ensure that Bonalu is celebrated in a safe manner. Further, they should focus on ensuring that the public complies with all the necessary Covid-19 safety and prevention norms like wearing face masks and maintaining social distance. In the run up to Bakrid, police officials must prevent any incidents of cow slaughter in Telangana."
Later, the minister also held a review meeting regarding the filling of vacant posts in the government departments of the state.
Mahmood Ali's directives come days after DGP M Mahender Reddy urged the people of the state to celebrate the upcoming festivals of Bonalu and Bakrid in a peaceful way.
He had also asked police officials to take all the steps necessary to avoid any untoward incidents during the celebrations, and to take
stringent action against anyone found to be transporting cows and calves.
