In what is surely a blow to the Telangana BJP, Mahbubnagar district head and former MLA Erra Shekhar today announced that he would be resigning from his post due to "unavoidable circumstances".
The resignation, which coincided with the party's state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar's visit to the district, is reportedly a precursor to Shekhar's defection to the party's primary rival in the state, the TRS.
According to his supporters, the former MLA was prompted to take the step as he was "peeved" at the treatment meted out to him by the party's senior leaders, including former MP A P Jithender Reddy who had forced him to sit behind Bandi Sanjay during a meeting at his (Reddy's) residence.
They also alleged that the party's high command had failed to take into consideration Shekhar's opinions when addressing a press meet some time ago.
The BJP leader will reportedly hold a press meet soon to reveal the details behind his resignation.
