Hyderabad | 3rd April 2015
Following the lunar eclipse on April 4, the doors of the Tirumala temple will be closed for almost 11 hours on Saturday, according to a press release by the TTD authorities.
As the chandra grahanam (lunar eclipse) is supposed to take place between 3:45 pm and 7:15 pm, the temple doors will be closed from almost six hours prior to the grahanam, which is a traditional practice.
On the occasion of the grahanam, the doors of the Tirumala temple will be closed from 9:30 am to 8 pm.
The TTD has cancelled the Kalyanotsavam, Dolotsavam (Ujal seva), Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Vasanthotsavam and Sahasra Deepalankarana seva, while Suprabhatam, Thomala and Archana will be performed as Ekantham.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, since the final day of the annual Vasanthotsavam festival will also be observed, slight changes in the Snapana Tirumanjanam have been made. Instead of observing the Snapanam for the deities in the noon, following the eclipse, the ritual will be performed between 5 am and 6:30 am, and all the deities will be brought back to the Srivari temple before 9:30 am, the authorities added.
