Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani offered prayers at the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala here on Saturday.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Chairman K Bapiraju presented sacred prasadam and water and silk cloth to Advani in the temple's 'Ranganayaka Mandapam'. Advani spent about half-an-hour in the temple and interacted with the members and officials of TTD trust.
Advani also took part in a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, which was chaired by M Venkaiah Naidu, and attended by seven committee members including Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Santosh Chowdhary, Kanimozhi and Revanth Singh. The meeting, held at the TTD Guest House, discussed measures to enhance security at the hill shrine and also the Sriharikota.
Sources say that the committee was satisfied with the security arrangements being made by the TDD and the local police. However, the committee reportedly proposed a special force for Tirumala's security besides upgradation of weaponry for the police forces. The Committee will submit its report to Parliament soon, sources said. (INN)
