Lakhs of saplings were planted across Telangana today in response to the call of minister K T Rama Rao to use that route to celebrate the 66th birthday of CM K Chandrashekar Rao.
The effort was headed by the minister's own municipal administration department. The Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA) N Satyanarayana (IAS) said that over eight lakh saplings were being planted across all the municipalities in the state. And the GHMC was the obvious leader there - Commissioner Lokesh Kumar said that saplings were being planted in all the 150 wards of the city, and that 1.26 lakh saplings were being planted in all the tourist attractions and places of religious significance in the city.
The authorities of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) also launched a plantation program to mark the Chief Minister's birthday. HMRL Managing Director N V S Reddy launched the program at the Uppal metro depot. Speaking on the occasion, he said that 50,000 saplings and shrubs were being planted today at various Metro stations, in the central medians below the metro viaducts etc.
He added that the HMRL had adopted two urban forest blocks at Gollur near the Shamshabad airport and Turkayamjal near the Bonguluru jn on the ORR.
Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy planted saplings in Suryapet district. As many as 6,600 saplings were planted in the various villages of the district. A large number of people including local leaders and officials participated in the green drive.
Lokayukta Justice C V Ramulu and Upa-Lokayukta V Niranjan too participated in a Haritha Haram program organized in the premises of the Institution of Lokayukta of Telangana at Basheerbagh.
