Lakhs of people from various districts in Telangana region thronged the 'Maha Garjana' meeting organised by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at Warangal.
The Maha Garjana is seen as an attempt by the TRS to showcase its strength before the Justice B N Srikrishna Commission submitted its report on the future of Andhra Pradesh.
With all the roads in the town filled by the TRS activists, the police had a tough time maintaining traffic. Traffic on Hanmakonda-Janagam road stretching 15 km radius from the venue of the meeting came to a halt.
People from neighbouring states like Surat in Gujarat, Mumbai and Aurangabad also turned up at the Maha Garjana, and the Srikanthachary Pranganam turned into a sea of humanity.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao and Medak MP Vijayshanti reached the venue before 5 pm. Chief guest Swami Agnivesh left for Warangal in a special charter helicopter along with the TRS supremo's son K Taraka Rama Rao.
TRS Floor leader Etela Rajender reached Warangal on foot, while Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao proceeded to the venue in a rally.
The party organized cultural programs highlighting Telangana sentiments and culture before the program began.
The Maha Garjana is aimed to send a message to New Delhi on the aspirations of the people for a separate Telangana state.
Meanwhile, the RTC has cancelled bus services from Hyderabad, Khammam and Karimnagar route following the traffic jams.
