KTR Sees Conspiracy In Sirpur Paper Mills Closure
The minister said that there was a deep conspiracy behind the closure of the mills as they had been shut within 3 months of the TRS winning Telangana in 2014.
Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao today opined that there was a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the closure of Sirpur Paper Mills as the management had pulled down its shutters within three months after the TRS came to power in Telangana.
The minister made this observation in the State Assembly during Question Hour while replying to the Opposition members' demand for taking immediate steps for the revival of the paper mills on which as many 3,000 workers' livelihoods depended.
KTR said that the management of the paper mills did not seem on reopening them. As a matter of fact, the real problem started after the Poddars had taken over the mills from the Birlas, he said.
Expressing anguish over the manner in which 3,000 workers of the mills were displaced, KTR said that in an effort to ensure justice to the employees, the state government had convened a meeting of the relevant bankers on September 24, 2015, to work out a one-time settlement. The bankers needed to respond positively, he said, and reiterated the government's firm commitment to ensure that the mill was revived at the earliest.
ITC was also approached to take over the paper mills, he explained.
He promised that the state government would explore all possibilities to get the paper mills reopened at the earliest.
He also appreciated legislator Koneru Kanappa for his untiring efforts to get the mills reopened.
