BRS working president K T Rama Rao today demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy immediately apologise for his "shameful and insulting" remarks against the Indian Army and withdraw the remarks.
The controversy erupted after Revanth Reddy, during his Jubilee Hills by-election campaign, said, "When Pakistan kicked us, we failed to counter."
KTR said that such irresponsible and disgraceful comments were unbecoming of someone holding the position of Chief Minister, and had deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians who hold the Army in the highest regard.
"To insult the Indian Army merely to score political points in an election rally is a new low, even by Revanth Reddy's standards," he said.
The BRS leader said that it took immense hard work, dedication, commitment and love for the country to serve in the armed forces and risk one's life for the nation. "We are able to live safely, practise politics and spend time with our families only because our soldiers stand guard at the borders, enduring the most difficult and cruel conditions," he said.
"What made you belittle our Army and glorify Pakistan? What were you trying to achieve by humiliating our brave soldiers?" KTR asked.
"For a man once caught with bags of cash, perhaps it is natural to worship goons and rowdy sheeters. But as the Chief Minister of Telangana and its representative, you have a duty to uphold dignity and patriotism, and must act responsibly and honour the soldiers who protect our borders - not demean them for political theatrics. Stop insulting the Indian Army and stop praising an enemy nation," he added.
