KTR Orders Probe On Virinchi Hospital

Hyderabad | 28th May 2021
IT and Municipal Minister K T Rama Rao today ordered a probe into the incident of death and subsequent violence in Virinchi hospital yesterday.

The minister asked the Director of Health Srinivas Rao to conduct an inquiry into the incident.

The minister was responding to a request on Twitter by a Mubasheer Khurram for an inquiry into the hospital.

A person named Vamshi Krishna had reportedly been admitted to the hospital some 10 days back of Covid, after he complained of breathing difficulties. The person passed away yesterday in the hospital.

The hospital reportedly asked the deceased's relatives to pay Rs 20 lakhs as fees and then take the body. The deceased's sister, a doctor, challenged the fee, asking how the amount came up to Rs 20 lakhs.

Thereupon, the hospital apparently asked them to take the body without paying any fees. However, the deceased's relatives then reportedly resorted to violence and vandalized the hospital's furniture asking how it could levy a bill of Rs 20 lakhs in the first place. Police had to restrain them. The incident has been captured on video.

The complaint to the minister was that the hospital was routinely accused of irregularities, and that it should be shut down until all allegations were investigated.
