Municipal Administration and IT Minister K T Rama Rao today condemned the alleged attempted attack by BJP corporators on the Mayor in the GHMC headquarters yesterday.
Taking to Twitter, the minister expressed serious surprise and distress at the incident.
He instructed the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad Anjani Kumar to take stern action against those involved in the incident.
"Some thugs & hooligans of BJP in Hyderabad have vandalised the GHMC office yesterday. I strongly condemn this atrocious behaviour. Guess it's too much to ask Godse Bhakts to behave in a Gandhian manner. Request @CPHydCity to take strictest action on the vandals as per law," the minister tweeted.
A team of BJP corporators allegedly destroyed the furniture in the Mayor's office yesterday when she was not there. They alleged that they were not getting funds on par with other TRS members in the GHMC, and demanded that the Mayor, the TRS' Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, address their concerns on development.
Vijayalakshmi later expressed surprise at the attack by the BJP corporators. She asked the corporators to behave in a manner befitting their stature, and not indulge in such atrocious acts. The people would not pardon elected representatives who indulged in such attacks on offices, she said, and warned the corporators involved of serious action.
She also said that she was ready to address any issues on development being brought up by the BJP's or other corporators. The GHMC could not give funds for development programs for some time now due to the existence of the poll code, she clarified.
