The health condition of former minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, whose indefinite fast demanding separate statehood for Telangana entered 5th day on Saturday, has deteriorated further.
After conducting a thorough check-up, a team of doctors from Yashoda Hospital fear that Komatireddy may slip into coma if he continues the hunger strike.
According to the medical bulletin, Komatireddy has lost six kilograms of weight since he began his hunger fast on November 1. He is suffering from stomach pain and his lungs are infected. His blood pressure, sugar and potassium levels are much below normal. The doctors said that he has tested positive for urine ketones.
The doctors have warned that if Komatireddy do not take food immediately, he might slip into a coma. However, Komatireddy has refused to break his fast until the Centre announces a roadmap for the formation of Telangana.
Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana appealed to Komatireddy to withdraw his fast. He reiterated that the Centre and the Congress High Command have already started the process to resolve the Telangana issue.
Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Botsa said that the Congress leaders in the state must extend their full co-operation and express faith on the High Command, which will resolve the Telangana issue at the earliest.
Meanwhile, freedom fight Konda Laxman Bapuji continued his week-long fast that he started on November 1 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Bapuji has also maintained that he would not withdraw his fast before the set deadline. (INN)
