Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday held a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi over the outcome of the Legislative Council election results.
According to sources, the Chief Minister's meeting with Sonia Gandhi went on for 45 minutes. The Chief Minister is believed to have informed the AICC chief about the dissidence of MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy (a loyalist of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy), the support of Ramachandra Reddy to the rebel candidate Tippareddy, which had resulted in cross-voting and the loss of the Congress candidate Naresh Reddy, and the support extended by former minister J C Diwakar Reddy of Antantapur to non-Congress candidates.
Sonia Gandhi is believed to have expressed her resentment over the Legislative Council election results, particularly the official candidates losing in the Chief Minister's home constituency.
Congress In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad and Sonia's political advisor Ahmed Patel were also present at the meeting.
The Chief Minister was to meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to inform him about the law and order situation in the state. However, as the Chief Minister was late, Chidambaram had cancelled the appointment.
