Several Congress activists of the Khammam district on Saturday staged a protest before the chambers of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, opposing the TPCC's granting a Lok Sabha ticket to Renuka Chowdhary.
The activists alleged that Renuka Chowdhary had not participated in any party activity in the last several years, and therefore should not be considered deserving of a ticket from the TPCC's Khammam Lok Sabha seat.
They also alleged that Renuka Chowdhary had taken a stand against the formation of Telangana, and that her candidature would harm the party's prospects in the entire Khammam district.
Sources say that the activists were the supporters of former MLA Younus Sultan, who is aspiring for a Congress ticket from the Khammam Lok Sabha constituency in the ensuing elections. (INN)
