Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today stated that he would soon take a call on whether to discontinue on-site classes in the face of rising Covid-19 cases in the state, and across the country.
Addressing today's Budget session, Rao said, "Our students are our children, and our government is committed to protecting them from the deadly coronavirus. We have already taken a number of steps to ensure this. However, as there are fears about a resurgence of the pandemic, we will decide whether to stop on-site classes in the state soon."
He added that the TRS government had taken the necessary steps to bolster the state's healthcare sector to help it deal with the pandemic, and reassured the house that the state had been doing well in containing Covid-19 when compared to several other states in the country.
The CM will make an announcement pertaining to the matter in about three days from today at the Budget session.
His remarks today follow a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the CMs of the Covid-19 hit states. Modi instructed the CMs to conduct the Covid-19 inoculation drive in an efficient manner, and to take steps to prevent the spread of the virus spread by ensuring strict adherence to the requisite safety guidelines.
The sudden rise in cases in the state, which have left many concerned, also prompted recently senior Congress leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir to urge the TRS-led state government and KCR to take
stringent additional measures to prevent the same.
