Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of tampering with the contents of the diary of gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin who was killed in a police encounter on August 8.
Speaking to the media in Tandur on Saturday, Shabbir Ali claimed that the Chief Minister had somehow gained access to Nayeem's diary which was seized by the police after the gangster's encounter death.
"Legally, the police department should have submitted the diary to the court. Since Nayeem's journal contains the names of some well-known politicians, industrialists and other important personalities who were, directly or indirectly, associated with the gangster's criminal activities, it was withheld by the cops and is now being misused by the CM himself," he said.
Shabbir Ali also claimed that pro-TRS news channels and papers were releasing the contents of the journal selectively in order to protect major players.
"The so-called honest disclosures of the contents by the TV channels are all tailored and selectively censored. This is part of a larger conspiracy being hatched by KCR," he said, and added that the entire diary should be made public.
The Congress leader pointed out that four days after Nayeem was killed, he (Shabbir Ali) had requested the government and the police department to order a CBI inquiry, as the cases against the gangster involved several charges from possession of high-grade arms and extortion to extremist activities, and therefore an IG-led Special Investigation Team would not be able to conduct a thorough investigation. This however was not done, he said.
"The cases against Nayeem were supposed to be a national issue. Why is KCR hesitant to order a CBI probe into them, if not for covering up something?" he questioned.
