To overcome the power deficiency and to meet the challenges of the power crisis, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed the officials of Department of Energy to draw up short-term and long-term plans.
The Chief Minister reviewed the power situation in the State against the background of the power crisis caused due to "the intentional mischief created by Andhra Pradesh GENCO".
He mentioned that the present crisis had 2 reasons - Andhra Pradesh and the drought.
He elicited the opinions of officials about the existing power position and the inadequacy of power supply to the farmers, and as a short-term measure, asked the officials to work out a plan of action to overcome the crisis by purchasing power from all available sources, including private ones.
He said that the government if required would buy power from neighboring States to overcome the crisis, and asked the officials to enquire about the availability of power in other States for sale to Telangana along with the costs, and work out the plan in this regard.
If required he said that he would personally talk to the Chief Ministers of the States like Karnataka for power.
KCR also indicated having tie-ups with States that had rich coal reserves, like Chattisgarh. He wanted drawing of transmission lines from Chattisgarh into Telangana through Wardah, and is likely to visit Chattisgarh in a couple of days to personally talk to his Chattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh and explore the possibilities of purchasing power from the State.
Chief Secretary Rajeev Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister N Narsing Rao, Principal Secretary (Energy) Suresh Chanda, Telangana Southern Power Corporation MD Syed Rizvi and AP GENCO CMD Prabhakar Rao attended the review meeting. (INN)
