Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today directed Chief Secretary S K Joshi to take immediate steps to release waters from the left canal of the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir to save the crops in two lakh acres in Khammam district.
The Chief Minister took this decision following a representation from Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah. Veeraiah had called on the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday and informed him about the water requirement to save the standing crops in the Sattupally, Khammam, Paleru, Wyra and Madhira constituencies. Two lakh acres of lands were under cultivation and needed waters immediately to save the crops being grown on them, Veeraiah said. KCR immediately asked the officials concerned to release waters from the Nagarjuna Sagar Left canal to save the crops.
Veeraiah belongs to KCR's bitter rival the TDP, and there is perhaps more going on here than meets the eye.
