Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that Chityala (Chakali) Ilamma's bravery and dynamism during the Telangana armed struggle were motivating even for today's generation.
Recalling Ilamma's sacrifices and fighting spirit on the occasion of the official celebrations of her birth anniversary on Tuesday, the Chief Minister hailed her as a democratic activist who fought legal battles in the courts for the realisation of her rights, and a symbol of the self-respect of the backward communities.
He added that Ilamma was one of the inspirations in the fight for a separate Telangana State and the subsequent development of the new State of Telangana. She was also the inspiration for many of the schemes implemented by the State government for the development and welfare of women, BCs and MBCs, which made the government stand out as a role model for the country, he said.
The CM said that the State government was officially organising Ilamma's birth and death anniversaries to mark her sacrifices and as a tribute to her.
