Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday strongly criticised the procedures adopted for the election of Swamy Goud as the Chairman of the Telangana State Legislative Council.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Ponnala said that the elections for the Chairman's post were held in blatant violation of Constitutional norms and established procedures.
He said that it was ridiculous to conduct the elections through secret ballot when the major opposition parties - the Congress and the TDP - had boycotted the elections.
He alleged that the TRS won the post purely by encouraging defections in the Congress and the TDP.
Ponnala accused Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of resorting to unethical politics by indulging in horse trading.
He alleged that the Congress MLCs were lured to join the TRS just a few days before the election of the Chairman.
He advised KCR to focus on the fulfillment of the promises that he made to the people, instead of concentrating on mere political gains. (INN)
