Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that the life insurance scheme for farmers being proposed in the state would show the way to the whole country.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting in Pragathi Bhavan on the issue with ministers Etela Rajender, Jagadish Reddy and Mahender Reddy, Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary S K Joshi, Principal Secretary for Agriculture Parthasarathy, CMO Principal Secretary S Narsing Rao, Special CS Ajay Mishra, Principal Secretary for Finance Rama Krishna Rao, Principal Secretary GAD Adhar Sinha, Secretary Finance Shiv Shankar, CMO Special Secretary Bhoopal Reddy, Commissioner for Agriculture Jagan Mohan Rao and senior LIC officials.
The CM had a detailed discussion on the proposed scheme in the meeting. While in the Government of India's scheme a farmer needed to pay part of the premium, the CM felt that the state should implement the scheme free of cost to the farmer. He also said that whatever might be the reason, when a farmer died, the family should immediately get Rs 5,00,000 in insurance. And that whether the farmer was small, marginal or big, the benefit of insurance should be the same. He also said that this would be one of the schemes that any future government would need to invariably continue, and thus it would have longevity.
The CM asked the Principal Secretary for Agriculture and Principal Secretary for Finance to have detailed discussions with the Life Insurance Corporation officers for fixing the rates and finalizing the other modalities. Due to large network of the LIC and the trust the people had in it, the CM asked the officials to entrust the responsibility of implementing the group insurance scheme to the corporation. He said that the premium amount would be a budgeted amount and hence was assured payment.
He said that the insurance papers should be prepared village-wise and mandal-wise, and care should be taken over the entry of the name of the nominee.
