KCR Gives Reply To Justice Narasimha Reddy's Commission
The former CM and BRS chief alleged that the Commission had been set up with political vendetta in mind.
Hyderabad | 15th June 2024
It is known that the Justice Narasimha Reddy Commission has sought an explanation from the previous Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for the purchase of power from Chhattisgarh as well as about the Yadadri and Bhadradri thermal plants.
The Commission issued notices to the former CM and BRS chief seeking an explanation by June 15.
KCR submitted a 12-page letter as an explanation to the Commission today.
In it, he said that he had gone ahead with the purchase of power and construction of power projects following all laws and regulations.
He also alleged that the Commission had been set up with political vendetta in mind.
According to the details mentioned in KCR's letter, in the early years of the formation of the State, there was a huge power crisis. "This is a well-known fact. Before the formation of Telangana State, not even a single sector was able to run properly due to the very poor shape of the power sector. Power holidays and power cuts in the State had created difficulties in united Andhra Pradesh. There were power cuts for three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening in the villages. It was very difficult to get three-phase power supply. In order to overcome this, the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act clearly said that 53.89% share in electricity should be given to Telangana in projects existing before June 2 2014 (the Telangana formation day) and those coming up after that, for 10 years. In violation of the bifurcation act, the then government did not supply electricity to Telangana, causing a deficit of 2,400 MW," KCR said.
KCR said that that there was a severe crisis in the power sector in Telangana due to an overall shortage of 5,000 MW.
"When the State was formed, the power sector was in a difficult situation. Due to lack of electricity, lakhs of agricultural pumpsets had gotten burnt. A power holiday had been declared for a few days every week in the industrial sector. Even the electricity given to Telangana according to the bifurcation act was not enough. We took constructive steps to strengthen the power distribution system in Telangana. All necessary approvals were obtained and progress was made," he claimed.
"The Commission has been set up to defame me and the then government, out of political vendetta. Everyone knows that our government had given electricity with a significant change. The current government's efforts are to downplay our change. At a press conference, the Commission spoke at will. Inquiry is a sacred responsibility. The Commission has to act as an intermediary between the two parties and prove the truth. All aspects should be thoroughly examined and decisions should be disclosed," he said, and asked Justice Narasimha Reddy to step down from the post of the Chairman of the Commission as it was illegal.
