Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today sanctioned Rs 5 lakh to a cancer patient in the city.
In a charitable gesture, he offered monetary help to 45-year-old Ghousia Begum, a resident of Syed Nagar in Banjara Hills, who was diagnosed with blood cancer two months ago.
The woman's family was being unable to raise the money required for her treatment. On top of that, her husband Rafiq Ahmed, who runs a small stationery shop, was not even being able to concentrate on running his business, being preoccupied with the stress of his wife's illness, which has impacted the family's already meagre income adversely.
Forced by circumstance, Ahmed then approached MLC K Kavitha through his acquaintances and narrated his story to her, and said that he would not be able to pay for his wife's medical expenses as he had already spent his life's savings on earlier medical bills.
On hearing about the patient's plight, Kavitha approached the CM and appealed to him to sanction Rs 5 lakh to Ghousia Begum on humanitarian grounds.
Acting on the MLC's appeal, KCR immediately agreed to help the patient by extending financial help to her.
Sources from the CMO said that Kavitha then personally handed over a Letter of Credit for Rs 5 lakh to Ghousia Begum so that she would be able to avail herself of the treatment she needed.
Just a few days ago, the CM
helped out another ailing citizen named Mahesh, whose family required a hefty sum to pay for a kidney transplant, and gave the patient Rs 10 lakh for the surgery.
