Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today congratulated ace badminton player P V Sindhu for winning a bronze medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics in the women's singles badminton category.
The CM expressed happiness at Sindhu's big win. It is a significant win since she has created history by becoming the first woman sportsperson from India to have won won medals at two consecutive Olympics.
Sindhu's big victory has prompted many other leaders and public personalities to congratulate her. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag, Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal, and actors Randeep Hooda and Sai Vaishnav Tej were among those who extended their wishes to her.
The player defeated China's He Bing Jiao in straight games to win her bronze.
While the entire nation is celebrating her remarkable success, Telangana's residents are especially proud since Sindhu is a native of the state. She was born and brought up in Hyderabad. Both her parents, P V Ramana and P Vijaya, have been national level volleyball players. In fact, her father was not only member of the Indian volleyball team that won a bronze medal at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games, but he also received the Arjuna Award in 2000 for his contribution to the sport.
