The CM said the hike in salaries would be implemented from June 2, 2014, and the new salaries paid from March, with the arrears deposited into the GPF accounts.
Hyderabad | 5th February 2015
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday announced a 43% fitment in the pay scales of the state government employees.
Addressing a press conference after holding a meeting with the employees' associations, the Chief Minister said that the hike in salaries would be implemented retrospectively from June 2, 2014, the Telangana Formation Day, and that the new salaries would be paid from March.
The arrears would be deposited into the GPF accounts, he stated.
The fitment would also be paid to those who retired after June 2, 2014.
The Chief Minister said that it was the first pay revision implementation for the employees after formation of the Telangana state. He claimed that the government had hiked the salaries beyond their expectation, as it had promised earlier.
The 10th Pay Revision Commission had recommended a 29% hike, while the employees who were getting a 27% interim relief, and seeking a 69% hike, were expecting about a 50% fitment.
The Chief Minister said that there were several instances wherein the hikes in salaries given by the state governments were beyond the recommendations of the PRCs.
KCR said that the decision to give such a massive hike was taken to recognise the role played by the employees during the statehood movement. He said that the Telangana state would not have been possible without the active participation of the employees. He reminded people how the employees had participated in historic Sakula Janula Samme for 42 days, and how many of them had faced cases and put their jobs at stake to achieve statehood for Telangana, he said.
The Chief Minister said that the hike would increase the burden on the state's exchequer by Rs 6,500 crores per year.
KCR said that the decision on contract and outsourcing staff would be taken later.
Employees Associations leaders Devi Prasad, Sujatha and Narendra Rao, and Parliamentary Secretary Srinivas Goud welcomed the decision, and assured that all employees would work hard to support the Chief Minister in his realisation of his dream of Bangaru Telangana. (INN)
