KCR Afraid Of CBI Probe Into Alair: Kodandaram
Kodandaram questioned the hesitation being shown by the Telangana CM in ordering a CBI probe into the encounter in which five undertrails were killed.
Hyderabad | 18th April 2015
Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Saturday demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a sitting judge of the High Court into the Alair encounter in which five undertrails were killed on April 7.
Speaking to media persons after attending a consultative meeting of various Muslim organisations at Madina Education Centre in Nampally, Kodandaram questioned the hesitation being shown by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in ordering a CBI probe.
He said that KCR should not be afraid of ordering a CBI probe if he was not trying to hide any facts related to the encounter.
Stating that the Alair encounter had created a sense of insecurity among Muslims, he said that giving extreme powers to the police was not good for a democratic country.
Referring to a statement made by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy that Hyderabad was free from terror activities, he said that in contrast to this statement, the state government, in its GO Ms No 184 on constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), had referred to the five undertrials as "terror operatives".
He said that accountability should be fixed upon everyone, and the guilty police officials should be punished if they had indulged in a fake encounter. (INN)
