YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha were locked in a war of words in Twitter today, a day after the former's arrest in Hyderabad amid high drama.
Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, described Sharmila as a covert of the BJP.
Using rhyming words in Telugu, the MLC called Sharmila an 'arrow' of the BJP, and alleged that the YSRTP president and BJP leaders were working hand-in-glove.
Sharmila hit back saying that the TRS leader was neither undertaking any padayatras nor addressing the people's problems.
She also alleged that many of Kavitha's promises had not been kept, and that she had no real place or work in the TRS.
Kavitha responded with a poem addressing Sharmila as an arrow of the lotus (the symbol of the BJP). She called the YSRTP leader a "lotus covert" and an "orange parrot".
Claiming that she was not a political tourist like Shamila, the TRS leader told the latter that she had emerged from the Telangana movement.
The war of words between the two began after Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and several BJP leaders condemned the TRS government for the manner in which Sharmila was arrested in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
The Governor expressed anguish at the way Sharmila was arrested, and expressed concern about her safety and health.
She tagged the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the union home minister and the Director General of Police of Telangana.
"The Governor expressed anguish at the way Smt. Sharmila was arrested and expressed concern about her safety and health condition. The visuals of towing away of her car, when she was inside the car, were disturbing (sic)," read the tweet from her official handle.
Soundararajan said that whatever may be their political backgrounds or ideologies, women leaders needed to be treated in a more dignified and respectful way.
