YSR Telangana Party chief Y S Sharmila was arrested on Monday following a clash between her supporters and workers of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), in Warangal district.
Police stopped Sharmila's padayatra in Chennaraopeta mandal and arrested her along with some of her party leaders and workers accompanying her.
The YSRTP cadre tried to resist Sharmila's arrest, and raised slogans against the TRS government. The police then used mild force to control the situation.
Sharmila allegedly made certain objectionable comments about TRS MLA P Sudershan Reddy who represents the Narsampet Assembly constituency in Warangal district. Protesting against her comments, the MLA's supporters damaged Sharmila's caravan and set some stuff on fire. They also hurled stones at cars, damaging the window panes.
The incident happened when Sharmila's padayatra reached Lingagiri village. Sharmila had started her padayatra from Narsampet town this morning, the 223rd day of the yatra.
As a precaution, Sharmila was shifted to Hyderabad by the police.
