Noted civil rights activist and senior advocate, K G Kannabhiran, died on Thursday, at the age of 82, at his residence in Marredpally. He is survived by his wife, Vasanthi, and daughter, Kalpana.
He was a native of Nellore district.
Kannabhiran was undergoing treatment for various ailments during the past few months.
He played a key role in people’s union for civil liberties, and worked as its president in 1994. He has worked with Bala Gopal for protection of human rights.
Well known for his efforts at highlighting the fake police cases on naxalites and fake encounters, Kannabhiran was respected by the democratic forces, and was feared by the police. He struggled to achieve justice for the oppressed all his life.
