Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today exhorted women to play a role in rooting out illicit and spurious liquor which were ruining their families.
Launching the Deepam scheme for gas cylinders to eligible people at Hanumakonda in the Warangal district along with minister for finance and civil supplies Etela Rajender, Srihari said that women should come forward to extirpate illicit liquor and save their spouses.
"Unless you all unite, the menace will not go away," he said.
The government had released Rs 150 crores towards the implementation of the scheme, and 20 lakh new cylinders would be supplied to the beneficiaries, he said.
The women of the self-help groups would all get cylinders, he added.
He flayed the Opposition for criticizing the TRS government which had successfully solved many problems including overcoming the power problem in just one year. Those who opposed statehood were now preventing Telangana development, too, he charged.
Rajender said that the government was trying to find a permanent solution to the problem of suicides by farmers.
"Despite our efforts the problem is persisting, and we are focusing on preventing more unfortunate incidents," he said. "The Opposition is however making it out to be much bigger than it is as it is annoyed at the welfare and development in the State."
Every welfare scheme would reach the eligible poor and deprived classes in the State, he promised, and warned of stringent measures against those who involved in black marketing or illegal hoarding of ration rice and other essentials.
