Jupally Vs D K Aruna
Political drama prevailed in the Mahabubnagar district last night, with Congress ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and D K Aruna being taken into preventive custody.
Political drama prevailed in the Mahabubnagar district last night, with Endowments Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna being taken into preventive custody.
D K Aruna was later released on personal surety as she had to participate in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary program. Jupally, however, is still in police custody.
Jupally had submitted his resignation to All India Congress President Sonia Gandhi in March for the cause of the Telangana statehood, and had undertaken a padayatra in the Mahabubnagar district 23 days ago.
D K Aruna was against the Endowments Minister conducting his padayatra in her home turf, Gadwal, and reportedly lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy about the same. She opined that the padayatra was being conducted by the minister for personal gains alone and not for the cause of Telangana.
Jupally's yatra was scheduled to enter Gadwal today. He was arrested by the police when he entered a town near Gadwal, and he was later shifted to Pebburu police station.
D K Aruna was taken into custody, and detained at Dharur police station, as Jupally had sought police protection against her, as she had reportedly warned him of dire consequences if he entered Gadwal.
Aruna criticised the Endowments Minister for failing to coordinate with her while planning the conduction of a public event in her constituency, and condemned him for seeking police protection against her.
Meanwhile, the supporters of Jupally Krishna Rao sabotaged 4 buses in the district and protested outside the Pebburu police station, demanding that he be released.
