Jishnu Dev Varma will take oath as the Governor of Telangana at 5:03 PM at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
Varma, who served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura from 2018 to 2023, was appointed the new Governor of Telangana on July 27, replacing the current Governor C P Radhakrishnan, who has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra.
Born on August 15, 1957, Varma joined the BJP in 1993 and has been playing a key role in the party since then.
In the 2018-23 Tripura government, in addition to being the Deputy CM, he also held the Power, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Finance, Planning, Science and Technology and Environment departments. He however lost the Assembly election in 2023 from Charilam in Sepahijala district.
Varma has also previously served as the President of the Badminton Association of India.
Varma is the first person from Tripura to be appointed the Governor of any State.
