Sub-Inspector Siddaiah, who was injured in an encounter with SIMI operatives four days ago at Janakipuram of the Nalgonda district, succumbed to his bullet wounds at Kamineni Hospital in L B Nagar on Tuesday evening.
Siddaiah, who was attached to the Atmakur Police Station, had sustained multiple bullet injuries during the shootout with two militants. He was among three police personnel who were injured in the incident, which also saw constable Nagaraju killed in the exchange of fire.
Siddaiah had suffered three bullet wounds, including one in the head. The hospital released a bulletin at about 2 pm stating that the SI's condition was deteriorating and that he was put on a life support system.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed deep condolences over the death of Siddaiah. He said that Siddaiah's supreme sacrifice would be remembered by the entire country. (INN)
