Alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorist and the mastermind behind the Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts case, Syed Maqbool (52), died today while undergoing treatment at the city-based Gandhi Hospital.
Maqbool, who was a prisoner in the Charlapally jail, had been suffering from illness for the past few days. A heart surgery was done on him 30 days back. His kidneys failed after that and his health deteriorated, and he was admitted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. He died in the early hours of Thursday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The NIA (National Investigation Agency) had found his involvement in many bomb attacks across the country. A Delhi court had sentenced him to life imprisonment in the Dilsukhnagar blasts case. A case was registered against Syed Maqbool in Hyderabad 6 months ago, and he was brought here from Delhi on a transit warrant.
Maqbool, who hailed from Nanded in Maharashtra, was known to be a close associate of Indian Mujahideen founder Azam Ghori. The NIA mentioned that he was behind the serial blasts in Varanasi in 2006, Mumbai in 2007 and Jaipur in 2008, and the Dilsukhnagar blasts in 2008.
