TDP general secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh on Monday accused Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy of concocting stories to cover up his failure to fulfil his election promises made to the people.
Lokesh asked how long Reddy would continue to resort to illegal arrests and non-stop suppression to escape fulfilling his promises to government employees.
Lokesh said that the Chief Minister had wasted three years of precious time without fulfilling his promise to cancel the contributory pension scheme (CPS) for the employees, and had completely betrayed them.
During his election campaign, Reddy had told the employees to rest assured that the CPS would be cancelled within one week of his coming to power, Lokesh said. The employees had not forgotten how forcefully and assertively Reddy had made the promise to cancel the CPS - the CM had repeated the promise at every election meeting, in addition to first making it during his massive padayatra, Lokesh said.
However, instead of coming through on the promise, the government was now suppressing the peaceful protests of the employees for the cancellation, he lamented.
The arrests of the UTF leaders and the CPS Employees Association leaders were deplorable and objectionable, he said.
Lokesh slammed the Chief Minister for making impractical and illogical promises with the sole aim of winning the elections by fair or foul means. Now, when the concerned sections were coming on to the roads, the Jagan dispensation was suppressing their protests with an iron hand, he said, and deplored the border-like situation in the State where a huge police force was being used to restrain the protesting teachers and employees.
"The YSRCP leaders raised cinema slogans that Jagan was the most reliable of leaders, and one who would never go back on his promises. The last three years have been witness to Jagan's failure in each and every promise," Lokesh said.
