Jagan Sets 1-Month Deadline For AP Loan Waiver

He said the YSR Congress would agitate by holding dharnas across Andhra Pradesh if the TDP failed to meet its commitment.
Hyderabad | 17th July 2014
Setting a 1-month deadline for the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh to implement the waiver of all agriculture and DWACRA loans, YSR Congress supremo Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said that the YSR Congress would take up the cause of the farmers, and agitate holding dharnas across the State if it failed to meet the commitment.

"Chandrababu Naidu has resolutely and categorically told the Election Commission that all logistics had been worked out, and that the loan waiver scheme was feasible. And he promised in the subsequent public meetings that, with all the experience he had as Chief Minister for 9 years, he found the scheme viable, and would implement it immediately after coming to power.

"People believed the stark lie and voted the TDP to power, and Naidu is now shirking responsibility and searching for ways to wriggle out of the situation. But we are with the farmers, and will take up an agitation if the loans are not waived off within one month," he said, while talking to reporters on Thursday.

In his letter to the Election Commission on April 11 and in the electioneering thereafter, the TDP President had consistently assured the people that the waiver of all agriculture and DWACRA loans would be done immediately upon his assuming office, and that it was feasible, Jagan stated.

"The Chief Minister is asking for a rescheduling of the loans, which happens only when there is a natural calamity. And the reschedule now announced is only for Rs 10,000 crores, while the remaining Rs 90,000 crores have been left out of the scheme.

"People have believed Chandrababu Naidu's election promises and have voted him to power, and the TDP government is now trying to delay the process. It has appointed the Kotaiah Committee only to drag the issue, and the report has not been given for obvious reasons," Jagan said.

"This is nothing but cheating the people. Any cheat will be booked under section 420 of the IPC. People, and farmers in particular, have lost faith and patience, and if the election promise of waiving all agricultural and DWACRA group loans is not fulfilled within one month, we will toe the agitation path," he warned.
