Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today took part in a program held to create awareness among the people of the state about his government's Disha app.
Described the government as an app that was launched as a step towards promoting women's safety, Disha alerts police control rooms when a person in distress shakes the smartphone three times, or touches the SOS button.
At the program, volunteers demonstrated the functioning of the app in the presence of the CM. After the volunteers demonstrated how to send distress signals to police control rooms, the Bhavanipuram police reached the program venue within minutes of receiving the message from the volunteers.
Speaking on the occasion, the volunteers said that the "pro-women" policy decisions made by the CM had brought "true freedom" to the women of AP. They also said that they had never seen a CM like Jagan in their lives.
Talking about the app, Jagan gushed, "Around 17 lakh women of our state have downloaded the app so far. I would urge all women with smartphones to download the Disha app on their phones. The presence of the Disha app in the phone will be no less than the company of a brother."
He added, "The police of AP are always ready to help all the people of the state. Women should feel free to approach them for any kind of help."
The CM also asserted that his government would continue to take strong steps to ensure the security of women in the state.
