Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today reiterated that the State government was dedicated to establishing Telangana as the leading State in the country for the protection and empowerment of women.
During the launch of the "Stand With Her" campaign - an initiative encouraging men to advocate for women's rights - on the eve of International Women's Day, the Chief Minister urged every young person to serve as a brand ambassador for women's protection in the State.
"Women should not be relegated to domestic roles; the government aspires that women to thrive in all fields. We must cultivate a philosophy that supports women in the face of gender discrimination and safeguards their rights," he said.
The Chief Minister expressed grave concern over the rising incidence of cyber crime targeting women in recent times. He said that the proliferation of social media had contributed to an increase in such offenses.
"Merely enacting laws and strengthening police oversight is insufficient. The safeguarding of women can only be achieved when society collectively assumes responsibility. We must unite and advocate for women's protection. Every woman should receive the same respect in society as that given by her own family members," he said.
Reddy spoke about the Congress' contribution to women's empowerment in politics, citing that women leaders in its regimes had had the opportunities to become President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, and Chief Ministers of several States.
He said that his own government had always been at the forefront of recognising the importance of women and delegating responsibilities to them, and that a slew of women empowerment schemes had already been launched. Ration cards and Indiramma houses were being issued in the name of women, loans had been provided to self-help groups, and a shop complex had been allotted to them at Shilparamam, he said.
The Chief Minister also said that his government had taken steps to encourage solar power generation and enable women to compete with large corporate groups like Adani and Ambani in the future.
In addition, free travel was provided for women on RTC buses, women's groups were being encouraged to become owners of 1,000 RTC buses, and petrol pumps had also been allotted to women to make them economically stronger, he claimed. He added that the Women's University in Koti of Hyderabad had been named after Veera Nari Chakali Ilamma to reflect the fighting spirit of women.
