The Telangana government today appealed to the Centre to work for the safe release of the Telugu people allegedly in the clutches of the IS (Islamic State) in Libya.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, in a letter addressed to the Ministry of External Affairs, has sought efforts for the immediate release of Prof Balram Kishan of Hyderabad and Gopi Krishna of Andhra Pradesh, kidnapped by the terrorist outfit.
Upon KCR's directive, Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma wrote the letter to the ministry in Delhi.
In the letter, Sharma appealed to the Centre to initiate talks with the Libyan government for the freeing of the victims.
Officials of Telangana Bhavan in Delhi held talks with MES wing and the latter held talks with its Libyan counterpart.
The Chief Minister exuded confidence that the Libyan government would take the necessary steps in this regard. He further expressed hope that the two Telugu people will return to their homes soon, a CMO release stated Saturday.
