Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today launched the Sripada Yellampalli project stage II at the Rajanna-Sircilla district.
Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said that the Yellampalli project was aimed at irrigating 1.65 lakh acres of land. Besides Yellampalli, another 50,000 acres would be irrigated by the Kathalapur project upon its completion.
The State government sanctioned Rs. 25,000 crores from its budget for all irrigation projects. At the same time, the government was also compensating farmers and other oustees who gave their lands for the projects fair and square, he claimed, and added that the compensation would be released in two weeks.
He attributed the completion of Yellampalli to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and said that the latter ordered to build the Rayapatnam bridge, which helped to impound waters for Yellampalli.
The TRS government took up pending canal works of the project - which was left untouched for six years due to the negligence of united AP governments towards Telangana - and made it fully operational, Harish Rao said.
He lashed out at the State Congress, which was in power for 10 years, for "not completing even a single project" in the Telangana region. The latter discriminated against Telangana, he accused, and pointed out that under the Jalayagnam scheme, the Congress government constructed Pothireddypadu, Gundlakamma, Pushkara and Tatipudi, while completely ignoring projects in Telangana, he fumed.
