Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Saturday demanded that the Centre convene an all-party meeting, by involving national parties, treating the division of Andhra Pradesh as a national issue.
Talking to reporters here, Yanamala said that the meeting with state parties over the state's bifurcation issue would serve no purpose.
The division of AP is a serious issue having implications on the entire country, he said.
"Therefore, all political parties at the national level should be invited for the meeting," he added.
Yanamala stated that it is wrong to divide the state, to fulfill the demand by "an individual".
Yanamala said that the issue of bifurcation should be dealt with more seriousness, by initiating a national debate and taking consensus.
Else, such divisions would encourage divisive politics in the country, and spell disaster for the nation in the longer run, he observed. (INN)
