IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao today inaugurated the much-awaited Shaikpet-Khajaguda flyover.
The minister was accompanied by union minister G Kishan Reddy, and state ministers Mahmood Ali, Srinivas Yadav and Sabitha Indra Reddy.
Rao said that the flyover was built at a cost of Rs 333.55 crore, under the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP). It had six lanes, was 2.8 km long and 12 metres wide, and had 74 pillars.
People who used that road stretch to get to offices in the Hitech City area faced a lot of traffic problems, and the flyover would address the same, he claimed. People coming from places including Mehdipatnam, ORR, Attapur, Golconda and Nanakramguda would now be able to enjoy hassle-free travel to their destinations in financial district, Madhapur and the adjoining localities housing the IT belt, he said.
About Rs 6,000 crore had been spent under the SRDP in six and half years by the KCR government to add new flyovers, roads, link roads and road separators in the city, he claimed. He also claimed that no city in the country would be able to compete with Hyderabad if the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and 132 new link roads were completed.
He sought Kishan Reddy's cooperation for land to build some more flyovers, skywalks and roads in the twin cities. The minister also appealed to Reddy to talk to the Centre and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to open 21 roads closed in the Cantonment area.
Earlier, Yadav urged Kishan Reddy to see that the Centre alloted Rs 10,000 crore to the state to develop the roads and flyovers, and ensure better connectivity.
