While addressing the participants at the two-day Advanced Training Programme on Green Building Rating Systems organised by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) CII today, Executive Director of CII-Godrej GBC S Raghupathy said that by the year 2030, building stock in India is expected to reach 100 billion sq.ft from the existing 25 billion sq.ft.
"Therefore, India has a significant opportunity to go the Green way and focused efforts by all the stakeholders is the need of the hour," he said.
Raghupathy informed that, presently, India has over 2,085 registered Green Building Projects amounting to over 1.43 billion sq.ft and is amongst the top three countries in the world which are fully involved in spearheading the global green building movement.
IGBC envisions to cross the 5 billion sq.ft mark by 2015-2016, he added.
The training programme has attracted 60 participants from all over India, and these professionals include architects, interior designers, consultants, manufacturers, facility managers and students. (INN)
