Governor E S L Narasimhan, on Wednesday, conveyed greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of Independence Day.
"Independence Day is a day of remembrance as well as dedication. Our freedom struggle is the culmination of the sacrifice of generations of selfless patriots; young and old, men and women; cutting across the barriers of caste, religion and region, from all over the country," he said.
"Today is a time to bow in remembrance of all those whose vision made it possible for us to enjoy the fruits of freedom," he said.
The Governor said that the Constitution ensures that all citizens have an equal opportunity to fulfill their destiny without discrimination.
"It enjoins upon us the obligations of citizenship to be fulfilled, as well as that of defending the unity and integrity of the country, and to find accord on all issues through tolerance and mutual respect within our democratic framework, which has stood the test of time," he said.
Narasimhan said that Andhra Pradesh has been at the forefront of nation-building, in particular, farmers, who have been the backbone of the nation.
"We have a legacy of a great tradition as well as culture. The benefits of development should reach every village and habitat," he said.
"May all your endeavours bear fruit. I pray for the well-being of the state and its people," the Governor said. (INN)
