The online food delivery service Zomato faced an unexpected setback today when its delivery workers staged a surprise protest in Uppal, Hyderabad.
The riders alleged that despite working hard over the past two to three months, they had not been adequately compensated for their efforts. They expressed frustration over the lack of proper incentives and the absence of insurance cover in the event of road accidents.
They also said that while Zomato charged substantial fees from customers, the delivery staff received no corresponding financial benefit. Some workers claimed that the management had even threatened them with legal action if they chose to protest peacefully.
Speaking to the media, the protesters said that they had taken to the streets to draw the government's attention to their demands and to seek justice.
