1,000 Migrant Workers Stage Protest At Tolichowki
Over 1,000 migrant workers came out on to the roads defying the lockdown today and staged a protest demanding that they be allowed to go back to their native places.
Scores of migrant workers came out on to the roads of the state capital suddenly defying the lockdown and staged a protest demanding that the authorities allow them to go back to their native places.
Over 1,000 migrant workers staged the protest, in Tolichowki.
They told the police that they were suffering a lot due to the lockdown and urged them to make arrangements to send them back to their states.
West Zone DCP A R Srinivas told the workers that the police would convey their pleas to the higher-ups in the state government, and urged them to withdraw their protest.
Convinced by this, the workers withdrew their sit-in protest.
Speaking to media persons later, Srinivas said that the migrant workers had come on to the roads following false reports that the authorities were arranging special trains to transfer the workers to their native places.
He said that the police had told the workers that they would be sent back to their states if the state and central governments made arrangements for their transportation.
He also said that the government had made arrangements for food for the workers.
