The emotionally distraught parents of Prashanth Goinaka, a Hyderabad student who was shot dead in a store robbery in the USA on Sunday night, have requested the Indian Consulate authorities to make arrangements to send the body to India. The shootout took place at a store in Oklahoma.
Two days after the incident, Oklahoma City police released a surveillance video of the suspects dragging Prashanth, who was the clerk, on floor and forcing him to open the cash register at gun point. Police say that while the gunmen were inside the store, a man was acting as a look out and walked by the outside camera during the robbery. Finally, the crooks having got what they wanted, shot and killed Prashanth.
Prashanth, who was 28, spent a short stint in the India Merchant Navy. He then went to do his MBA at the International Technological University in California. Last week, he went to Oklahoma after the university permitted him to take up a part-time job as a store clerk in SK food store.
He is survived by his father G Rajaiah, mother Bharathi and only sister Swathi who is pursuing her MBBS here. Prashanth was a resident of Santosh Nagar in Hyderabad.
